LBL PHOTO CONTEST, in honor of Gene Boaz.

Gene was a long time friend of ours who loved photography and sailing on Kentucky Lake. He was an avid supporter of the Land Between The Lakes and volunteered many hours helping to promote the preservation of it’s’ natural resources. His love for sailing was apparent as he spent most of his summer at our local Boy Scout Camp, teaching kids how to sail. As part of his sailing adventure he would bring the scouts to Lighthouse Landing on his 37’ Hunter, where they would look at the boats for sale, shop in the store for souvenirs and walk to Grand Rivers for ice cream.
Marty and Brenda Colburn, as members of the Board of Directors/Advisory Board for the “Friends of the LBL” and co-chairpersons for the committee to organize the 1st LBL Photo Contest, would like to invite all photographers to enter. For more information visit www.lblphotocontest.org

ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL
Kentucky’s Western Waterland has moved its Annual Labor Day Weekend Arts & Crafts Festival to Grand Rivers. The festival will be held September 2 – 3rd in the new Grand Rivers City Park and along the extension of the Grand Rivers Walking Trail behind the Badgett Playhouse. (It has previously been held at the Fenton Activities Area in Land Between The Lakes.)
This two-day festival will feature exhibitors from around the country. There will be craft demonstrations and many different hand-crafted items such as woodcrafts, quilts, custom clothing, American Indian art and music, folk art, jewelry, ceramics, pottery, baskets and much begin shopping for that special Christmas present or decoration.
Spaces are still available for crafters. All items sold must be handmade. Kentucky’s Western Waterland is a nonprofit organization that promotes tourism throughout the 15 western counties of Kentucky.

The Walking Trail extension was made possible by $400,000. in Grant Funds from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, $50,000 from the Grand Rivers Tourism Commission, and a $50,000 gift committed by Mayor Max Webb and Councilman Frank Buchanon from an anonymous source. The Grand Rivers Little Lake Park was made possible by the Corp of Engineers who donated the land, and the Grand Rivers Tourism Commission who funded $150,000 for the new parking lots and new dance area in the project . The project was approved by the City Council as part of the Badgett Playhouse project approval.
